As some might recall I signed up for the Oklahoma City Memorial half-marathon which will take place on 4/27/08. After signing up however, I learnt that I'll be traveling to Argentina on business for a week and won't return to Dallas until 6am on 4/26/08. So needless to say I was worried about jet lag, the fact that I don't sleep well on planes, and that I likely won't have much time to train in Argentina. So I started to research the effects of jet lag on runners....
Subsequently I found this guy who was 59 years old and ran seven (7) full marathons, in seven (7) days, across seven (7) continents. On top of that the guy had previously recovered from a heart attack and a double by-pass surgery and he was actually running with a defibrillator "just in case". http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3234479.stm
So I presume if a 59 year old with a heart condition can travel 7 continents in 7 days and run over 180 miles, then I can travel across 1 and run 13 miles.

A Tough Training regimen: Buster Martin of London became the oldest Marathon runner by completing a marathon in March at the age of 101. He says that in preparation, he completed a 13-mile half marathon that took him a little more than five hours. It would have been faster, he says, but he stopped for a beer and a cigarette. Martin likes running, "but not as much as I like my beer," he added. He says that you can start running at any time - "even if you're as young as 70."
I read about this guy, and I believe the exact wording he used was "a pint and a fag".
You know….....if I was a young whippersnapper…and was 30 something….....and had been running everyday…....and already ran a ½ marathon…...I would be embarrassed to even raise the question of jet lag.......but hey that's just me....…Jesus H. Christ!.... what is this younger generation gonna do when we are gone? And now that I think about it…....didn’t polvo say he rested a day or two before his last ½ marathon anyway?
