While running in the Oklahoma Memorial run I saw some handicap people racing in wheelchairs... I also saw, as stated before, someone in his early 70's, with pretty bad posture I might add. I also saw a blind fellow running who was holding a rope that was tethered to a sighted person's back for guidance. I saw big, small, short and tall out there running - pushing themselves and overcoming great odds. I learnt that if they can do it - anyone can - and if anyone had a valid excuse not to get out there it was them - but they did it anyway.
Ironic,
So I was talking about running with some co-workers in Argentina, and this gal was telling me how bad it was for you, it can hurt your knees, ankles, etc., and how she'd never do that - it's just not good for you. Then she went outside to smoke a cigarette. Just thought that was amusing. Not that I'm judging - just thought it was an interesting series of events.

reminds me of the story about some one pissin and moanin about having no shoes until they met a man without any feet... It is always amazing the things that get people out to run or exercise...or not.
For the record running is bad on your joints. The human body was not designed to run for extended distances. It was designed to walk for extended distances (think Jews in the desert)...
Anyhoo, off to drink my morning whiskey, and take a nice long pull on an unfiltered Pall Mall.
More power to you runner boy!
...or the expression I like to use to put things in perspective when I'm having one of my "slow" days:
"I was sad because I could not walk - then I met a woman who had really ugly shoes."
I am with Valencia, the human body is not made to run for long distances...but I can't use this excuse to at least try to WALK long distances...say on that brand new treadmill I JUST had to have...
Was funny... I ran that long distance and while I was obviously tired and a bit sore at the end I didn't injure anything... however upon my return home I was wrestling with my 5 year old in the living room and pulled a muscle in my back - and subsequently had troubles breathing and sleeping - Go figure.
I would thus conclude that the human body wasn't designed to wrestle with a 5 year old in the living room.
