Yes, I called the Dept. of Wildlife because there had been local reports of rabies. Woman said rabies are further north, but both fox and mountain lions have been known to steal each other's kits.
that's fascinating! And disturbing. We recently spotted a squirrel that no doubt had rabies and a baby racoon that (as it turns out) had distemper (it fell out of a tree and wobbled drunkenly around our yard).

I'm sad to say it is another younger fox.
Plou thought it was holding its own offspring but I would guess it was the result of a abduction gone awry.
