Chili words of wisdom

I was going to make homemade chili yesterday and got lazy. So I had a can of store bought chilli in the cabinet. I looked at the label and the chilli really looked great. But once I heated it up and ate it......it was not that good. I mentioned this to Joan in an email and she replied with some words of wisdom:

"that is something learned...food isn't as good as the label"

If you've read it once, you've read it a thousand times on this blog.... canned chili just might not live up to it's "in-can" hype.

Honestly that's some pretty deap stuff Vic... the best part is that a lot of people reading this blog might think you're really just talking about canned chilli ...

How astute of you, Polvo, to be able to read between the lines! One might not expect this from someone who has difficulty spelling one syllable words like "deep".

As a follow up to the original post, it said...

"that is something learned...food isn't as good as the label"

But my question is, have you ever actually eaten the label? What if you find that neither the chili nor the label taste that good? Do you go for the tri-fecta and eat the can?

However, if the label was really better than the Chili maybe you could start the first ever Chili label cook-off? Could be an all day event - a Chili label cook-off followed by a fruit cake toss? It's always a great day for one of those.

Again, just an idea.

I like the idea of the chilli label cook-off..i think there should be different classes:
label thicknesses, four color or more label, 10 oz., 14 oz. and 32 oz. cans, retail or wholesale packaging, domestic or import, and maybe date-code expirations.
