I found myself craving a good red wine on my way home today... so I walked into this wine boutique in hoity-toity Highland Park, Texas and I began speaking to the attendant about Malbec wine. I was looking for a particular Malbec but was hoping to find one from Argentina (as some are made in California) ... anyway... after verbally establishing some faux "wine cred" if you will, (see also: street cred) I told the gal that my mother happens to like Merlot ... "Glen Ellen" I told her... and the look on her face was as if she had just eaten a sweaty sock on accident i.e. one part surprise and two parts disgust ... "Oh my.." she said "That's one step above boxed wine" she gasped, while acting as if she was actually trying to spit sock fuzz remnants off of her tongue. So with that queue, I decided not to mention my other relatives wine tastes.... so, as fast as I had established my "wine cred" - it was gone.

Did you remind this woman that she lives in TEXAS?
Obviously the woman was not familiar with the high end box wines available in colorado.........
I bought a bottle of Malbec not so long ago (due to the rave children reviews) and it tasted like cleaning solvent, Back the Glenn Ellen I did run.
Should try the boxed Malbec from Argentina
What kind of post gets removed by a "blog administrator"? (i.e. one of our own and NOT the author). Color me...Curious in Colorado

Boan, I have done that my own self - many times. I think, if you hit the trash can again, it will totally delete - let me try....
Boan...you sting me......you say "tasted like cleaning solvent" like it's a bad thing.
On the topic of smelly and wine in the same sentence, I was telling Valencia about these Yankee candles I found in Beall's, our favorite FL store, this summer. I was praising Yankee candles as emitting their stench better than any other "scented candle". I told her I found a perfect gift for Vic and/or Boan, a purple Yankee candle (in a jar) named "Merlot". Valencia asked, "What did that smell like - a homeless wino?"
apparently valencia has never enjoyed the fragrance of a nice february vintage of franzia merlot....
