Shift sliding away............

Helped a friend move yesterday. He has 6 bikes. Two of them are coaster "Auto Shift" bikes.....they automatically shift gears with a built in electronic device. I have never heard of such a bike until yesterday. Is America great or what?

"Out of Touch" ... "Elitist?"

So I asked my mom earlier today what she was doing over this "three day weekend" and she asked me "What's a three day weekend?" and I said, "It's where you don't have to work for three days" and then she repeated, in a somewhat confused tone .. "Don't have to work for three days??" as if grasping for the answer ... then without further prompting she said "Oh! I'm sorry sweetie, I haven't worked in years" and then I could hear her yelling to my dad in the background "... he just asked us what we were doing since (apparently?) Monday is a holiday and we have what he called a Three day weekend" and then I can hear him laughing, and then she starts to laugh as well.

Bastards.... happy Friday to everyone else though! Any fun plans?

Silence is golden....

I found myself craving a good red wine on my way home today... so I walked into this wine boutique in hoity-toity Highland Park, Texas and I began speaking to the attendant about Malbec wine. I was looking for a particular Malbec but was hoping to find one from Argentina (as some are made in California) ... anyway... after verbally establishing some faux "wine cred" if you will, (see also: street cred) I told the gal that my mother happens to like Merlot ... "Glen Ellen" I told her... and the look on her face was as if she had just eaten a sweaty sock on accident i.e. one part surprise and two parts disgust ... "Oh my.." she said "That's one step above boxed wine" she gasped, while acting as if she was actually trying to spit sock fuzz remnants off of her tongue. So with that queue, I decided not to mention my other relatives wine tastes.... so, as fast as I had established my "wine cred" - it was gone.

Learnt something new everyday .....

I learnt that (Possibly) the fastest way to "ripen" a banana is to leave it in your gym bag for a couple of days.

Picture Perfect Wedding

Tonight I learned from Valencia that Oliver and Maggie's wedding slideshow is now available for viewing at http://www.caytonphotography.com/. When you get to this page, opt to tun the music off (in the upper right hand corner) because it competes with the music assigned to the slide show (a little web design flaw). Go to Blog on the far right, then you will see the wedding on their first page (under that bit about the magazine wedding). I was disappointed to see that most of our blog family are not included in these few shots - not even Valencia - and she was a bridesmaid! (but not at the house before the wedding in the one bridesmaids shot that was included). But these are some great pictures of a magical day. Enjoy!

check this out

I learnt that the bottom of the check ..where all those squiggly numbers hang out, shows your check number along with all that other stuff. I have been looking at checks for years and years and did not know that the check number was there and in the upper right hand corner.

very valuable toenail stuff

by observation, I learnt that one can paint one's toenail, wait a couple of months, and look at it and see how much one's toenail has grown in a couple of months. This seems like very valuable information , but I cannot determine how to use it to make money.
PS
I also learnt there are toenail extentions available for no apparent reason.

Simple Home Remedies ...

1. If you're choking on an ice cube, simply pour a cup of boiling water down your
throat. presto! the blockage will instantly remove itself.

2. Avoid cutting yourself when slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold the vegetables while you chop.

3. Avoid arguments with the females about lifting the toilet seat by using the sink.

4. For high blood pressure sufferers ~ simply cut yourself and bleed for a few minutes, thus
reducing the pressure on your veins. remember to use a timer.

5. A mouse trap placed on top of your alarm clock will prevent you from rolling over and going back to sleep after you hit the snooze button.

6. If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives. then you'll be afraid to cough.

7. You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape. if it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. if it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape...

8. Remember - everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

9. If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

It is hard to hook up sometimes............

I learnt how to hop down to Kmart and buy a Logitech web cam. Come back home and load the software. Figure out it didn't work and then download new Logitech drivers off the web. Then download some Microsoft files like 5.6 or something like that the Logitech help site suggested. Then call Todd and get some tech support on 32 bit vs 64 bit questions. ( I was happy he didn't tell me to "RTFM" like he usually does...................just kidding......he always helps out.)
Looked up boan and baybo's skype name/number on the skype index and called them big as life. They answered and I saw them and they saw me....and we talked about an hour. I thought they were going to go get Lucky and Aug , but it didn't happen. Then I found about 5 more people on the directory. Polvo and Abbzug were not at home or chose not to answer.........my brother in Florida and brother-in-law in California were listed too............this could be fun........my other daughter is hooking up now too.

Heeeeeeeeeere's Skippy!

Introducing new blog blood. For those of you who may not have met him at the wedding, today's comment on one of the blog entries written below was posted by one of Oliver's groomsmen and boyhood friends, my longlost "stepson", Skippy! Skippy is more than just a pretty face; I hope to be hearing more from you, Skippy.

Dirty little smurf....

Was talking with my employee and as best we could rememeber, there were a bunch of smurfs right... there was papa smurf, handy smurf, Brainy, dreamy smurf, etc., but there was only one female smurf "Smurfette".... All those smurfs and just one girl, where did they all come from? so one would conclude really her name should have been 'Whore smurf' no? .... you do the math.

American Idol, Eat your Heart Out

"I thought you'd never ask"....

Thank you, Polvo, for asking. Yes, I do have a picture of the bride and groom. They're a lovely couple, if I must say so myself.
Everyone seemed to have a really good time - as evidenced by the 2 previous wedding postings. :)

4 goodness sense

I learnt that at Walmart,

Sprite "without" sugar costs

4 cents more than Sprite

"with" Suger... and that

makes zero cents.

It is better to give than receive......................

I got a $1 check, note, and coffee cup from Abbzug and Leopold yesterday........and just to show you how god moves in mysterious ways...........the check was hand delivered to me in a catholic church..... now what are the chances I would be standing in a church (or that I would get a check from Abbzug and/or Leopold ) ?

Anyway, I got a check and a genuine "NPR look-a-like" coffee mug with the word SCIENCE magic markered over duct tape stuck to the mug. The note as you can see to the left makes reference to a dollar.
I thanked Abbzug for the dollar, cup and mug. But I said I recall there was talk about $2 and not one dollar in a previous blog posting. Abbzug seemed to have trouble remembering this exact amount.
So when I got home last night, I looked back on a December 29, 2007 blog note from Leopold and found the following :

"Therefore I applaud your efforts and will contribute toward your endeavors by pledging $2 toward a box of wine (does that cover an entire box?) for you."
As yall know, I am certainly not one to look a gift horse in the mouth.........and I do appreciate the money....................even at this late date...................but I don't think recipients of the Nobel peace prize have to shake the envelope and ask for the FULL amount of the prize money.

I hate Crocs ....

I stumbled across an article online. Apparently there is a whole community of "Croc haters" out there. Below is a excerpt from the article.... (from Newsweek no less). In addition I found a website http://www.ihatecrocs.com/ and it has a really funny blog entry in there. Worth checking out.

"...I like to play a game with my son, Joseph. We sit on a bench in touristy Old Town, Alexandria, Va., and we're not allowed to get up until we see a dozen pairs of Crocs. It usually doesn't take long. But the other day we were stuck at eight after a few minutes, and I was getting a little concerned. Just then my boy leaned over and said, "Don't worry, Dad. A family of dorks will come along any minute." To paraphrase Hank Hill, if he wasn't my son, I would have hugged him right then, I was so proud."
